HONEYMOON IN PARADISE

SERENGETI | ZANZIBAR

7 DAYS

Combining 3 nights Serengeti National Park and 3 nights Zanzibar.

If you are looking to nurture your newly found love, a honeymoon in East Africa is one of the best places to enjoy life. Some destinations have hosted royals, including Queen Elizabeth II. The white sands are a perfect getaway for any couple. Additionally, there are numerous resorts around the East African coast.

Day 1–3: Overnight at Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge, Serengeti National Park

Begin your African honeymoon adventure with a flight from Arusha Airport to Kogatende Airstrip. Once there, an Gullah Geechee Africa will collect you for a game drive en route to Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge in the northern Serengeti region. Once at Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge, lunch will be served with an opportunity to relax and settle in. In the afternoon, you have the option of either relaxing in camp or heading out for a game drive in an open safari vehicle. Arriving back in camp at sunset, there’s a chance to freshen up before enjoying your first Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge dinner experience, followed by a nightcap around a proper safari campfire. Depending on your preference, there are a couple of options with regards to how the next day is structured. One option is to break camp early and head out with a picnic breakfast on a morning game drive, returning to camp in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you can do another game drive or opt to relax beside the pool with a good book. Alternatively, you can eat breakfast in camp and head out on your game drive with a picnic lunch, returning in the mid-afternoon. Private vehicle hire is an optional extra that further increases the flexibility afforded to you, but this needs to be booked in advance. You’ll spend three days with us at Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge before hopping on a plane and making your way to the tropical paradise that is Zanzibar for the remainder of your honeymoon.

Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge is remotely located in the Wogakuria Hills of the Northern Serengeti. A scenic region characterized by grassy rolling hills, open woodland and tree-lined watercourses, it is a habitat that attracts wildlife throughout the year. Lemala Kuria Hills is in close proximity to the Mara River on the Serengeti’s border with Kenya’s Maasai Mara, so is also within the main corridor of the world-famous wildebeest migration between July and October.

Our selected lodge offers unrivalled luxury and sophistication, where you can choose to either relax in style or enjoy the Northern Serengeti’s excellent game viewing (without the crowds) with our superb guides in open 4×4 vehicles.

There are several dining options at the lodge or out in the bush, and delicious meals include a choice of starters, main courses, desserts and house drinks. Afternoon tea is served before your game drive, and cocktails at sunset are taken on one of the kopjes with distant views of the Isuria Escarpment in the Maasai Mara. The Melengali Spa is in a separate tent where you can indulge in massages and manicures in a peaceful, natural setting.

Day 4–6: Overnight at Matemwe Retreat, Zanzibar

After three days spent exploring the Serengeti’s plains, Zanzibar is the ideal location to end your honeymoon. After flying in from the Serengeti, you’ll be collected at the airport for a 90-minute  drive through the city and across the island to Matemwe Retreat. Here you have your own rooftop deck and plunge pool with panoramic views of Zanzibar’s coastline — you’ll also be treated to a private butler and chef, so there’s really no need to leave your villa. However, if you do feel like venturing out, there’s plenty to do that will keep you busy. You will quickly ease into the laid-back rhythm of island life, and the peaceful location and relaxed atmosphere make it the perfect place to unwind. Fresh seafood, refreshing cocktails and relaxing massages come standard at Matemwe but there really is no schedule while you stay with us. After breakfast, you can take a stroll down the beach, head out on a snorkeling excursion, or take part in one of the many activities available on the island. A romantic lunch on a private sandbank — aptly dubbed ‘Infinity Island’ — is a must for couples looking to really get away from the world. Matemwe is just 60 minutes’ drive from Stone Town, allowing for easy day trips and excursions to all corners of the island. Your three days spent with us at Matemwe can be as busy, or as relaxed, as you please.

Matemwe properties are situated on the northeast coast of the idyllic Zanzibar Island. Framed by white sands and coconut palms, this is the perfect beach escape. Meals are served at your private deck at the  villa, which has stunning sea views. Each of the villas  have views of the ocean from their sea-facing verandahs.  There are two large pools, one which overlooks the Indian

Ocean and another that is more secluded and private.  Matemwe Lodge (a few meters from your villa at the Retreat) offers direct access to the beach and there are many activities to be enjoyed on the island. There is also an Spa whereby you can indulge in a few spa treatments  during your time with us.
